Few other areas outside the home draw as much attention as the yard, and the landscaping, or lack thereof, there represented. Much as a canvas is a good display for a painter’s work, the yard can do a pretty good job representing the people who live in a particular house. Let’s take a look at three yard styles that can say quite a bit about someone:
Meticulous attention to detail: This is defined by every possible section of grass having been edged, the grass being perfectly trimmed at least once a week, and sprinklers dousing the gardens with a fine mist at the same time every evening. Rigorous attention to detail is hard to miss – it makes for a yard that invites one’s bare feet to sample the luxurious grass!
Dilapidation: On the other side of the same coin, there is the completely neglected yard. It can take several shapes, including extremely long weeds and grass growing in the yard. Or, it might have a tarp covering most of the yard, which is an easy way to cut down on mowing, but does little for appearances. When junk accumulates in the yard, it’s easy to gather the impression that no one lives at the address in question. When things look this bad, it doesn’t say much for the people who live in the home.
Xeriscaping: Often implies that the landowners are environmentally conscious, and don’t wish to modify nature to their own whims. They probably don’t wish to contribute to increased water usage, either.
All three styles appeal to different personalities. Can you spot yours?
